why the difference matters

Most fire-retardant artificial foliage is treated with a spray or dip coating after manufacture. PyroLeaf™ takes a fundamentally different approach.

PyroLeaf™ — Inherently Fire-Retardant

FR properties integrated at manufacture

IFR (Inherently Fire-Retardant) additives are infused into the raw materials before the fibres are formed. Every part of every leaf — core, surface, vein — carries the same FR properties throughout.

Sprayed / Dipped FR — Surface Treatment

Coating applied after manufacture

Sprayed or dipped FR treatments coat the outer surface of the foliage. The FR chemical sits on top of the material rather than being part of it.

⚠️May leave a visible residue, tacky surface or chemical odour
⚠️Annual compliance inspection often required — additional cost and administration

Common questions about
PyroLeaf™ fire performance

No. PyroLeaf™ uses inherently fire-retardant materials — the FR properties are part of the fibre itself, not a surface coating. There is no re-treatment, re-spraying or annual re-certification requirement. The certification is valid for the life of the product.
This depends on your project location and the applicable building regulations. UK and Commonwealth projects typically require BS 5852. European projects require EN 1021-1/2. German projects often require DIN 4102-1 B1. US projects require NFPA 701, and California projects may additionally require TB117. Middle East projects typically reference NFPA or UK standards. If you're unsure, share your project location and we'll advise on the appropriate standard.
PyroLeaf™ applies to indoor foliage only. For outdoor trees and green walls requiring UV stability, we offer HelioLeaf™ (ISO 4892, 10-year colour guarantee). For covered outdoor terraces or semi-outdoor environments where both fire and UV performance are required, PyroLeaf™ and HelioLeaf™ can be specified together — this dual specification is available on selected models including OT-03 and LF-02.
PyroLeaf™ is available across the full indoor tree (IT) and indoor green wall (GW) range — 27 models in total. It is not available on outdoor trees (OT series) or large feature trees above 3m (LF series, which are bespoke). For large indoor trees above 3m, PyroLeaf™ is available through our Bespoke service — submit a brief and we'll confirm feasibility.
PyroLeaf™ products carry a premium over standard foliage due to the cost of inherently FR materials and the testing and certification process. We don't publish price lists — contact us with your specification for a quote. Core stock PyroLeaf™ SKUs (IT-01 through IT-06, GW-01, GW-03) are held in inventory for faster turnaround.

Each PyroLeaf™ model carries a pre-written specification clause: "Artificial foliage shall be inherently fire-retardant to BS 5852 / EN 1021-1 (PyroLeaf™ Certified or equivalent)."
